Mariposa leaves the guild

Hey Gang -

This is my last official communication as the guildmaster of Scarlet Talon.

I wanted to let you all know that I have left the role of guildmaster and have left the guild.
This was based on a dramatic increase in my working hours at my job, and also a desire to get back to some of the fundamentals of playing the game.

When I was level 45, Bluenight and I left our guild and started the Talons. In 3 months we have grown to be a large guild on this server, with over 120 members. It has been a goal of mine to create a guild and help it to grow and prosper - and I am so happy that this guild has done well.

Now it is the time for me to turn the leadership of this guild over to the next generation of players. I have temporarily transferred management to Harbor, a non-played alt of Sireuro's. this is only for a short time, and I am hoping that people will nominate themselves or other players for the role of guildmaster.

Please add a comment directly to this post to say if you are interested or have a nomination for someone else. Also please feel free to share anything you like regarding the guild or this change.

I know that this causes a degree of chaos and confusion - and I sincerely hope and believe that the guild is strong enough to weather this storm and continue to be a great group of players dedicated to helping each other to get more from the game.

I want to close by telling you all how much I have enjoyed being the GM and working with each of you. I am so proud of us and this guild and what we have accomplished.

Goodbye for now and good luck my friends!

Guild Economy

Hello guild -

We have talked for a while about the possibility of having the guild act as an economy, supporting lower members with new equipment, and helping people get their tradeskills up.

For example - we can give all of our linen cloth to a tailor so that they may increase their skills and make bags for all of our new members.

If we work together, we can make some incredible things happen.

Two things will help us create this:

1. A guild membership list that shows gathering and crafting skills and levels
2. A guild bank to store all of the materials

We have set up the first part of the guild bank: Sireuro's alt character, Harbor, has been chosen as the guild bank. Lets all start to send unneeded items (greens for enchanting, cloth, skins, metal, etc) to Harbor, and he will bank it for us.

Each day we will post a list of whats in the bank, and those that are subscribed can participate in the economy.

Please start using this process today and lets see if we can make this a great new part of an already incredible guild!

Thanks

Update on behavior guidelines

Hello guild -

I have received many questions about a couple of members that were recently removed from the guild. Please understand that these are never easy decisions to make, and that each of the people disciplined were people I considered my friends. The council received information and complaints, and observes itself, the behavior of these individuals, and decided to remove them from the guild to protect our environment and reputation.

I will not go into details, but I will highlight a couple of key items that were involved.
Please use this as a reminder of our guild charter and guidelines.

1. Spam chat or /YELL chat in Ironforge reflects very badly on the guild and may result in immediate removal

2. Using profanity or racial slurs in guild chat or general chats is highly disrespectful and may result in immediate removal

3. Do not spam the guild chat - meaning nonsense words, ascii art, l33t speak, and other things that could be considered annoying and disruptive - guild chat is a priviledge not a right, and should not be abused. Party chat can easily be established to have casual offline discussions.

4. Please do not go into an instance with other guild members without being able to commit to the full time necessary. All players should communicate which quests they are on and whether or not they can stay for the whole instance. A rule of thumb is that each instance will take at least two hours to complete from start to finish.

And the most important guideline I have to share is - be more ready to help a member who is having problems with one of these rules than to complain about them to the council. We certainly want to enforce proper behavior, but remember this is a game and we are all coming from different places.

If you are looking for promotion, this is a key factor for me and the council. Instead of just complaining about someone, demonstrate leadership and see if you can help them.

As we get larger we need to make sure we are sticking to our guidelines, but I also want to make sure we do not lose sight of what made our guild great in the first place:

LETS HAVE FUN TALONS - AND REMEMBER - ITS JUST A GAME!!!

Thanks,

Mari

Guild Ranks and Promotions

Hey guild -

Here is the eagerly awaited post regarding ranks and promotions.
Remember that rank is a priviledge not a right. That said I am hoping to see many new promotions in the near future.

First, an explanation of the ranks:

INACTIVE - Rank used for members who have not been active for over 30 days. Also used as a disciplinary rank for probation purposes. Inactive members can listen to guild chat but not participate.

WHELPLING - Introductory rank to give the new member a chance to experience the guild and become acquainted with the other guild members. They can participate freely in guild chat. After 48 hours these members will automatically be promoted to Talons.

TALON - This is the full member status rank in our guild. Talons are able to participate in guild chat, join in guild events, and participate in the guild bank and economy. After one month in the guild they are eligible for the rank of Raptor.

RAPTOR - These are the veterans of the guild who have proven their loyalty by being a Talon for over a month, and being active in chat and guild life, and recruiting and helping new members. They are able to recruit new members on their own. After two months in the guild they are eligible for officer status with the rank of Dragon.

DRAGON - Raptors who have proven their dedication to the guild and who want to truly serve others by helping with quests and instances, money, helping with guild events, and recruiting and training new members can apply for the rank of Dragon. Dragons comprise the officer group, and along with the 4 elders and the mistress may participate in officer chat, recruit, and promote members.

ELDER - There are four Dragon officers that will serve along with the mistress as the guild's council. These individuals are the core of the guild's leadership and are available to help resolve any of the guild's issues. They are responsible for planning and executing guild events, making sure the bank and economy are functioning well, and assisting other guild members as appropriate. An "Officer of the Day" will be assigned the night before and announced in the Message of the Day. This Elder will be dedicated to helping on that particular day. Elders can recruit, promote, and demote members.

MISTRESS - The Mistress is the guildmaster and along with the 4 elders is responsible for making guild decisions and seeing to the health and prosperity of the guild. The mistress can recruit, promote, demote, and boot guild members.

The promotion schedule is listed below. Note that for each promotion, members must meet minimum requirements and accept the responsibilities of the new rank. All promotions to Dragon level must be unanimously approved by the council.

Repeatedly asking for rank is not a good way to get promoted. Please understand what will be expected of you and model your behavior on that. Also be active in the guild and guild chat so that the officers have visibility to your great work.

PROMOTION 1: Whelpling to Talon
Time in rank - 48 hours
Suggested level - any
Benefits - guild chat
Required guild focus - 0%

PROMOTION 2: Talon to Raptor
Time in rank - 1 month
Suggested level - 30
Benefits - guild chat, recruiting
Required guild focus - 10%
Recruitment goal - 3 new recruits

PROMOTION 3: Raptor to Dragon
Time in rank - 2 months
Suggested level - 45
Benefits - guild chat, recruiting
Required guild focus - 30%
Recruitment goal - 5 new recruits

Raptor to Dragon promotions will also involve the completion of a quest given by the council - generally involving recruitment and training of members of the same class as the raptor - creating a class-based pod of players who can work and learn together.

Thank you for all of your hard work.
I wish everyone good luck and I hope to see many promotions in the weeks to come.

- Mariposa
